DAMS’s Jak Crawford mastered wet conditions to score his third win of the season in the Formula 2 feature race at Silverstone

A pre-race rain shower resulted in all drivers fitting wet tyres for the start. Crawford immediately snatched the lead from third on the grid ahead of Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne when the race got underway, while ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins bogged down from pole and slipped to fourth.

Crawford pulled over two seconds clear of Dunne early on, only for the McLaren junior to close the gap as the circuit started to dry out.

The American used a late virtual safety car period to pit for fresh wet tyres, the intervention caused by Prema’s Gabriele Mini who retired following a collision with MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe shortly after changing to slick tyres.

Having stayed out, Dunne took over the lead but also pitted when the safety car was deployed due to Invicta Racing’s Roman Stanek spinning to halt.

Crawford regained the lead from Dunne, and he would take victory behind the safety car after AIX Racing’s Joshua Duersken spun and retired at the restart with two laps to go.

Hitech GP’s Luke Browning charged from 12th to third to take a podium on home soil ahead of his team-mate Dino Beganovic. Prema’s Sebastian Montoya was fifth ahead of Invicta’s sprint race winner Leonardo Fornaroli.

MP’s championship leader Richard Verschoor was seventh ahead of Campos Racing duo Arvid Lindblad and Pepe Marti, while Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rafael Villagomez was the final points-scorer in 10th. Martins eventually finished one lap down in 19th.
