BTCC: Jackson takes victory after flawless drive

@Motorbase on Twitter

Ollie Jackson took his second victory in three meetings after an inch perfect drive to hold off a charging Adam Morgan.

Colin Turkington extended his championship lead further after finishing just ahead of Ash Sutton in third.

Polesitter Chris Smiley started poorly, losing out to both Morgan and Jackson before turn one.

The top two battled throughout the first half of the lap with Jackson spectacularly passing Morgan around the outside at Hamilton.

Jackson was then able to open up the gap to Morgan to hold a comfortable lead.

After a good start, Butcher was able to get himself into third position before trying, and failing, to pass Morgan for second.

Behind the top three Smiley struggled for pace and did a solid job keeping Turkington, Sutton, Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish behind until he was punted off at Oggies by Cammish on lap 7.

At the front Morgan and Butcher closed in on Jackson and were eventually joined by a charging Ingram.

With two laps remaining the gap between the top four was less than two seconds but Jackson was able to hang on to take his second BTCC victory.

Behind the top two Butcher and Ingram made heavy contact at Murrays on the final lap after they made contact through Coram.

Ingram passed Butcher on the inside at Coram but they made contact which sent Butcher onto the grass and across the inside of Murrays with the Motorbase driver crashing into the side of Ingram.

Turkington therefore took a surprise podium with his championship rival Sutton finishing in fourth.

Butcher eventually finished fifth with Cammish and Josh Cook the highest placed Hondas in sixth and seventh.

Ingram limped home eighth with what appeared to be heavy damage ahead of Jake Hill and Aidan Moffat in ninth and tenth respectively.

Senna Proctor came home 11th ahead of Tom Oliphant in 12th and Matt Neal in 13th.

Michael Crees completed a hat-trick of points finishes in 14th ahead of series returnee Glynn Geddie who scored his first point since 2018.
