The British Rallycross Championship has been given Elite status. December double header date confirmed with season finale now in January.

The British Rallycross Championship has been upgraded to Elite Status for sport. This means future events can still take place even with current social and travel restrictions in place. With this, a new date has been confirmed for rounds 2 and 3. The double header will take place across December 5th/6th. All support categories will also hold two rounds except for Retro GpB/4×4 which will hold a single round. Racing will still take place into the night on Saturday with floodlights erected to be able to carry out night racing. Racing on Sunday is expected to finish around sunset. The date was originally going to be used to host the opening round of the winter rallycross series. The series was re-established last year but was scrapped in 2020 to make way for the British championship’s extended season.

Earlier this week the November double header was cancelled amid tighter lockdown restrictions. Only elite sports were able to continue competing which included BTCC and British GT. The British Rallycross Championship was not classified as elite sport and was forced to postpone the next rounds by 4 weeks. The finale originally for 19th December has been pushed back to an unspecified date in January. Spectators are unlikely to be allowed to the rescheduled round as the national lockdown is set to end just days before the next event.

BTRDA Rallycross Championship

Since the opening round back in August the BTRDA clubmans rallycross championship has held their entire season. The BTRDA held 3 rounds at 3 different circuits, Lydden Hill, Blyton Park and Knockhill. Dale Ford won the overall series tied on points with Marc Jones and current Junior Swift championship leader Tom Ovenden. His father Tristan, won the opening round in his Renault Clio which powered him to three Supernational titles. The British Rallycross round in Scotland was cancelled ahead of tightening restrictions.

The 2021 calendar for the BTRDA championship has been released with a more regular looking season set to take place. The series will start in March at Blyton Park before returning later in the year. There will be at Lydden Hill, a double header at Pembrey and the now traditional season finale at Knockhill.
