A chat with Fittipaldi – Ginetta Juniors

Enzo Fittipaldi will be competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship this season.
Our Junior Formulae correspondent Bethonie Waring spoke to him ahead of his debut season.

Earlier this month, Ginetta Junior Scholarship finalist Enzo Fittipaldi announced he would be joining the Ginetta Junior grid for the 2016 championship after signing a deal for the upcoming season.

Overtake Motorsport spoke to Fittipaldi ahead of his first season in car racing.

Excited for the season?

I’m very excited for the season.

So, what made you choose Ginetta?

We thought it was a very good learning experience. I want to make my way to open wheel. Ginetta races on all the very big tracks for all the formula car races so it’s a great chance for me to run the tracks, and get a real head start for F4, for me to start the next season next year. So it’s a good learning experience and very competitive championship.

What were your first thoughts after your first test in the car?

The car- it’s been one of the best cars that I’ve ever driven before because I’ve only raced karts. It was a great experience. The car was great. It was a very good car. I really liked it.

Obviously you’re still very young, so how easy is it to manage your time between motorsports and things like school and social life.

Obviously, it’s pretty hard for me, but we have to deal with it so I finish all my work. I’m really good at school. I get really good grades and I’m going to have online school in the UK to finish my studies.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given for racing?

The best advice I got is mainly from my family members: my uncle, my brother, my grand father, my dad. I have to be very dedicated and very focused. Dedication is the main thing. You have to be very committed and very confident and always look ahead to the next step.

So what’s the aim for 2016?

My goal for 2016 is to get a great year in the Ginetta. Hopefully learn a lot, learn all the tracks, learn the data, learn the work of the team, because it’s all a new environment for me.

It’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to be able to do it. We’re hoping for a top ten to top five finish in the championship.

And the next step, going past the Ginettas: what’s the plan?

We already have a plan for next year, to race Formula 4.
