Middleton ahead after Ginetta Juniors opener

Stuart Middleton leads the championship after winning the second Ginetta Junior race of the season and coming second to Will Tregurtha in the first. Max Bird and Daniel Harper took Rookie Cup victories.

Race One

Middleton took pole in an incredibly close qualifying session that proved just how close the championship will be this season. He beat Tregrtha’s time by a tenth of a second.

The pair lined up on the front row of the grid for the first race of the weekend, with Dave Wooder behind them. The three battled for the lead of the race throughout the race, but it was Wooder who was leading the race by the time the first safety car of the season made an appearance.

Tregutha, then in second, was ready to take the lead again as soon as the safety car returned to the puts, with Middleton getting past rookie Bird to challenge for second place.

All four cars were incredibly close going into the final stages of the face, with Wooder losing out on second place to Middleton laps before the end.

Race Two

Tregurtha started the second race of the weekend on pole, ready to make it two out of two at the beginning of the championship, but it wasn’t to be. Middleton edged him into second place at the beginning of a race that promised to be as exciting and close as the first.

Tregurtha had an exciting race, moving up and down through the top five places after losing out to Geri Nicosia and rookie Harper. In the closing stages of the race, with Middleton still in the lead, Tregutha was fighting for the top spot again, trying desperately to get past the Douglas Motorsport driver.

It all fell apart for Tregurtha again before the end of the race, though, and he finished fifth overall, just ahead of Harper. Brown squeezed into third place in the closing lap of the race, demoting Cameron Roberts to fourth.
