Middleton extends championship lead at Donington

Lewis Brown took the first race of the weekend in a lights-to-flag victory after taking his maiden pole earlier in the weekend. Stuart Middleton’s win in the second race extended his championship lead ahead of Dave Wooder. Daniel Harper also took a race win.

Race One

After an incredibly close qualifying, with the top four drivers separated by less than a tenth of a second, it was Brown starting on pole alongside Stuart Middleton.

Daniel Harper, who started fourth, picked up a position in the opening lap of the race whilst Brown held his lead ahead of Middleton and Wooder. The safety car was out on track at the end of the race, stopping Brown from pulling away.

The race restarted just as sleet began to rain down on the track. Brown managed to control the restart, pulling out a comfortable gap ahead of Middleton. Middleton was pulling away from his team mate in third. Harper was left battling against Wooder, Tregurtha, and Priaulx.

Brown took a well-deserved maiden win ahead of Middleton and Harper.

Race Two

Middleton took the win after a dramatic second race of the weekend.

Middleton was stuck behind Brown at the start of the race, whilst Wooder slipped past Harper into third. Each corner saw another move as the pair swapped places back and forth, but Harper eventually managed to keep Wooder behind him.

Middleton took the race lead at the start of lap five, getting past Brown at Craner Curves. It was the first of many laps lost for Brown as he tumbled down the order throughout the lap, eventually finishing ninth.

Harper was promoted into second position, but he wasn’t going to settle with that. He took the lead from Middleton with five minutes to go. Middleton fought hard against the rookie, taking the race right to the line and making a decisive move as the chequered flag was in sight.

Middleton took the win, with Harper taking the rookie class win.

Race Three

Cameron Roberts took pole position in the reverse grid draw for the third race of the weekend. The position kept him out of the usual opening scrap that brought out the safety car.

Roberts lost the lead on the restart, Tregurtha storming past into first and Harper following him past into second moments later. The rookie pushed against Tregurtha, taking the lead of the race with five minutes still left on the clock. He crossed the finish line in first, becoming the first scholar to do so.

Brown just pipped Tregurtha for second place.
