Clean sweep at Donington for Wrigley

Tom Wrigley became the first driver since 2013 to win all three races in a meeting. His success at Donington Park last weekend extends his GT4 SuperCup lead to fifty points.

Race One

Wrigley claimed pole for the first race after trading the top spot with Jamie Orton for the final ten minutes of qualifying. Orton lined up alongside Wrigley on the front row of the grid, but he couldn’t find his way past Wrigley.

The top two flew away from the grid but Will Burns and Ben Green in third and fourth battled behind them.

In the AM class, James Guess was leading Colin White and Grahame Tilley at the start of the race until the safety car was brought out when John Wall needed to be recovered.

Green was the biggest loser on the safety car restart, running wide on the wet grass, dropping to the back of the pack and ending the battle with Burns.

White was right on the back of Guess for the class win after the restart, running nose to tail but, at the very end of the race, the pair fell down the order, with Tilley taking the AM class lead.

Guess recovered enough to take the final spot on the AM class podium behind Fraser Robertson, with White having to settle for fourth.

Race Two

Wrigley started the second race of the weekend from pole, this time managing to leave Burns far behind him. Burns found himself having to defend against Orton behind him to keep the second spot on the podium, with Hibbert and Boardley battling behind them for fourth.

This time it was lap nine when the safety car made its way onto the track, after a spin from Davies. The battles at the front of the grid were neutralised whilst his car was recovered. Two laps later, a dash to the flag commenced.

Wrigley, Burns, and Orton broke away from the rest of the pack, Burns and Orton immediately restarting their battle for second place and letting Wrigley build a comfortable gap again.

Burns managed to keep Orton behind him as they crossed the finish line, with White taking the AM class win after passing Robertson towards the end of the race.

Race Three

Wrigley had his work cut out in the final race at Donington park, with the reverse grid putting Tom Hibbert on pole. The privateer led the field into the first lap, with a fast starting Orton and Burns pushing their way into second and third.

Orton and Burns continued their race two battle as they followed behind Hibbert, but slight contact put Burns in the gravel at Redgate and, a few corners later, Orton span himself down the order.

Both cars carried on, but it allowed Wrigley to slip into second place, closing in on Hibbert. He sliced past the privateer on the sixth lap, and Hibbert was too busy defending against Boardley and Green to fight back against the championship leader.

In the AM class, it was White leading the way again, leading Tilley and Guess across the line.
