Smiley confirms JamSport move

Chris Smiley has confirmed he will be joining Jamsport Racing team for the remained of the season. The Clio Cup team has strong links with BTCC’s Team HARD, who Smiley has been competing with over the start of the 2016 season.

Team HARD announced earlier today Michael Caine would be replacing the Northern Irish driver after funding problems compromised Smiley’s season.

Smiley will now join Ant Whorton-Eales in the colourful Clio car originally meant for Tom Grundy.

“I need to get back to enjoying my motorsport and Team HARD have been very helpful in putting this deal together,” he said.

“I had a first run in the JamSport car at Donington Park last Friday and felt right at home. The UK Clio Cup car is a lovely piece of kit and felt great to drive, plus I was able to put in an identical time to Ant which is encouraging.”

JamSport team principal said he’s sure Smiley will be able to work well with Whorton-Eales, who is currently leading the championship. He also commented on how well the team’s relationship with Team HARD is, following Whorton-Eales run in their car earlier this month.
Whilst Smiley will be adding the Clio Cup to his list of championships competed in, he still has his eyes on the BTCC.

“Make no doubt about it – I feel I have unfinished business in the BTCC and being back in a tourer is what I want longer-term. The UK Clio Cup gives me the opportunity to prove myself again and work towards getting back there.”
