Family comes first for Power Maxed Racing’s Kelvin Fletcher. Dave Newsham will stand in for the PMR driver at Knockhill.
Fletcher will return to the BTCC when the series heads to Rockingham at the end of the month, but the expected birth of his first child is a little more important than the Knockhill round.
“As much as I love the BTCC, and I love to race, the birth of my child is not something I can miss,” Fletcher said. “Liz is due any day now, and I can’t be in two places at once.”
Fletcher is yet to score a point in his first season in the series, but feels he’s been improving.
“I feel like I have been making progress this year and am aware that I don’t want to lose the momentum, but the BTCC demands 100% focus, but I want to be there to support Liz.”
Fletcher is happy with his Knockhill replacement. The Welsh born, Inverness based driver has competed in the BTCC in the past five seasons. Newsham has taken two podiums at Knockhill in his BTCC career, including a win in 2012.
“The BTCC has always held a special place in my heart and when Adam [Weaver] approached me to stand in for Kelvin, I couldn’t get the word “yes” out fast enough,” Newsham said. “The team and car were great last year and with the upgrades for this year; I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.”
Newsham competed with the Power Maxed Racing team last year, with a best finish of fourth at Silverstone and the Brands Hatch GP circuit.
