Quinn happy with successful Knockhill weekend

Alex Quinn was happy with his performance at Knockhill, taking two podiums – including a race win – despite engine problems.

Quinn crossed the line in the first race of the weekend in a Carlin sandwich, with Petru Florescu ahead of him and Devlin DeFrancesco pushing him from behind. After the race, Quinn said it would have been hard to beat Florescu on track, but was still happy with the result.

“He [Florescu] was really quick in that race and we struggled a bit,” he said after the first race. “It’s still really good to get second. Devlin was pushing me all the race so it was quite hard to defend and attack but we managed to keep second so I’m happy with that.”

It may have been hard to beat the Romanian on the track, but it turned out Quinn wouldn’t need to.

Whilst the Fortec driver came home in fourth after the reverse grid race, Florescu and DeFrancesco crashed. Florescu lashed out at his team mate after the race and threw a punch at DeFrancesco. It cost Florescu the win from race one as he was excluded from the entire weekend.

That boosted Quinn to first.

“Finding out that I got the win from yesterday’s race was good,” he said after the final race of the weekend, where he finished third.

On the third race, he said: “Starting from pole, we’d have liked to win, but I’m still happy with our weekend.”

It hadn’t been an easy weekend for Quinn, who had a problem with his engine that put him on the back foot, but he was still able to leave Knockhill the best scoring rookie and third best scoring driver overall.

Now, he’s looking forward to Rockingham in two weeks’ time.

“We tested [at Rockingham] last week,” he said. “We’re quite good pace so I’m looking forward to it. I quite enjoying the track. It’s a bit different so I’m looking forward to it and I think we can get some good results.”
