Formula E will be heading into its 3rd season in October of this year and plenty of changes will bring new and exciting things to the electric series.
While the sport lost the Trulli team due to financial & mechanical issues, we will see Jaguar enter the sport using a self-branded powertrain. Jaguar has not yet named their drivers, but plan to do so around pre-season testing, which will see such names as Alex Lynn and Mitch Evans testing for the new team.
Team Aguri has withdrawn from the sport as well and has been taken over by CMC. The team has been re-named “Techeetah” and will use a Renault powertrain. Jean-Eric Vergne and Ma Qing Ha have been confirmed as their drivers.
Calendar changes include 5 new cities holding races in Season 3. We will see the sights and beauty of Hong Kong, Brussels, New York City, Marrakech and Montreal. The rounds in Moscow, Beijing, Punte del Este, Putrajaya and Long Beach have been dropped. However, we will see the return of Monte Carlo.
Rule changes include a new maximum battery weight, which has been increased from 200kg to 230kg, while the weight of the car itself will be reduced from 888kg to 880kg.
While the sport remains fairly new, it has already attracted attention from other teams and driveers from other motorsport series. It has also become increasingly popular among celebrities and other athletes.
We will head into Season 3 with Sebastien Buemi as defending FE Drivers Champion for Renault E.dams
