Engine problems put WSR at the back of the grid

It was a dark qualifying for West Surrey Racing, who will find themselves at the back of the grid tomorrow.

The terrible weather at Rockingham paused qualifying midway through, mixing up the grid for the first race of the weekend, but nobody seemed to be as out of place as the West Surrey Racing team.

Jack Goff’s P25 will be the team’s best start after all three drivers could only manage a handful of laps each due to engine problems.

“There was just water getting in the engine,” Sam Tordoff, who managed a P27, said. “We might as well have not bothered in that session, I don’t think.”

Tordoff believes it’s possible to solve the problem before the first race of the weekend tomorrow. When asked if the problem could crop up again tomorrow, Tordoff wasn’t sure.

“I hope not,” he said. “We don’t know at this stage. But we had no problems at Croft when it rained there, so maybe it’s just a case of the amount of rain that we had today in one go was just too much for the car. I don’t know. Maybe sitting stationary in the pit lane didn’t help.”

Goff will start twenty fifth tomorrow, with team mate Rob Collard 26th and Tordoff 27th.
