Finsport team to join Clio Cup Junior series

Independent team Finsport will be joining the Renault UK Clio Cup Junior series with a possible two car team. The Lincoln based team has already placed an order for one car, and will announce their driver soon.

Joining the junior championship will mark a return to the Renault Sport paddock, with team principal Jay Finlay working in the senior series in 2015. Finlay sees the junior series as the perfect opportunity to return to Clios.

“When news of the Clio Junior championship came out it was music to my ears,” said Finlay. “There’s huge interest and, when a small team like ours looks at what is being offered, it stands out as the pinnacle of junior car racing. It’s also a perfect opportunity for us to measure ourselves against teams who have more Clio experience and grow for the future.”

So far, big teams already running in the senior series have been the only ones announcing their junior series intentions, but championship manager Will Fewkes believes Finsport choosing this route is evidence the series appeals to smaller teams.

“This underlines the appeal that UK Clio Cup Junior has for smaller teams from the club racing scene across many platforms: cost, technical expertise, and the opportunity to both gauge themselves against more established names and to brind on new talent and build for the future.”

Finsport will announce their driver and way up the option of running a second car in the months before the season begins.
