Sam Tordoff will step away from the British Touring Car Championship next season. The Bradford born driver will move onto “new opportunities” after spending four full seasons in the championship.
Tordoff joined the TOCA package aged 19, and has taken championship wins in the Porsche Supercup, Porsche Carrera Cup, and the Renault Clio Cup.
Last season, Tordoff came close to taking the BTCC title, but he eventually lost out by two points after a difficult weekend at Brands Hatch.
“I would like to put on record what a fabulous time I have had racing on the TOCA package for the last eight years,” Tordoff said. “I’ve won races in all the Championship’s I’ve raced in and have driven for some great teams such as Total Control Racing, Team Parker Racing, and latterly with West Surrey Racing and BMW who are, without doubt, the best team in the BTCC Paddock and I leave with great memories and a heavy heart.”
Tordoff will continue racing but in another championship, taking sponsors JCT600, GardX Protection, and Premia Solutions with him.
“My success on the track this year has presented me with new opportunities that are too good to miss,” he said. “I am now really looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead with some exciting plans in place.”
News on Tordoff’s future is expected in the coming weeks.
