Carlin add two more to F4 line up

Carlin have added two British Formula 4 new comers with vastly different experiences to their 2017 line up. Logan Sargeant and Lucas Alecco Roy will both make their British F4 debuts this year.

Sargeant, the more experienced of the two, is currently competing in the UEA F4 Championship with Carlin, after becoming the first American driver since 1978 to take the KFJ World title in his karting career.

After three rounds of the UEA championship, the 16-year-old is second overall, with nine podiums to his name.

“I am really looking forward to this coming season with Carlin,” said Sargeant. “They have won the championship two years in a row so they are the obvious team to compete with in the British Formula 4 championship. It’s going to be a very exciting year, and we are all going to be pushing to make it three titles in a row; I will do everything possible behind the wheel to make that happen.”

At the age of 16, Sargeant has spent half his life racing karts or cars, an experience which his 2017 teammate doesn’t share.

Roy is familiar with horse power, though he’s more used to the kind that comes from an animal rather than an engine. The German has previously competed at a high level in dressage, but is now making his car racing debut in the British Formula 4. It will be a steep learning curve for the 19-year-old, but it’s one he’s ready for.

“Obviously I’ve got a lot to learn this season, so seat time is very valuable to me,” he said. “I’ll be making the most of every moment I’m on track to make sure that I can get the experience and consistency I need throughout the season. I don’t know any of the tracks, so I have to make sure that I can get up to speed quickly, but after all I’m coming from one sport to another where the dedication required is the same; I’m a sportsman at heart and competing is what I love. I’m just going to be pushing hard to get to the limit and looking forward to the challenge.”

The duo will join the already announced Patrik Pasma at the team, and another driver is expected to be announced soon.

Both drivers will be testing today at Oulton Park.
