Bushell extends Clio Cup lead with fourth consecutive win

Mike Bushell’s Renault UK Clio Cup domination continued with a pair of wins at Snetterton. The Team Pyro driver is now nearly 70 points ahead of WDE’s Lee Pattison in the championship fight.

Starting from pole for the opening race, Bushell was forced to defend against Pattison on the opening lap. Pattison couldn’t find a way past the pole sitter, and dropped back behind DRM’s Daniel Rowbottom.

Bushell was able to pull away from the rest of the field as Rowbottom defended against Pattison. By the time Pattison had retaken second, the championship leader was already more than two second up the road.

Pattison couldn’t close in on his title rival, having to fend off attacks from Rowbottom, and finished more than three seconds behind his title rival. Rowbottom took third, his fourth podium finish of the season.

A difficult qualifying for championship contender Paul Rivett put him on the back foot. The WDE driver started eighth and dropped down to ninth on the opening lap. He moved up through the field to finish fifth behind JamSport’s Lucas Orrock.

Max Coates, who finished the opening race seventh, started on pole for race two, alongside Bushell. The championship leader snatched the lead heading into the opening corner, with Pattison following him past Coates on the second lap.

Pattison and Coates were joined by James Dorlin, Rivett, Rowbottom, and Dan Zelos in a six way fight for second, allowing Bushell to once again build up a strong lead at the front of the field.

Pattison dropped out of the fight on the fifth lap, when his car slowed. He retired from the race, losing more valuable points to Bushell.

Coates, back in second, shook off attacks from Rivett to begin to close the gap to Bushell. He finished only a quarter of a second behind the race winner.

Rivett won the battle for third, closing the gap to team-mate Pattison in the title fight.

Bushell has now taken four consecutive Clio Cup wins, his seventh of the season. He could take the championship title as early as Rockingham, but there are still more than 200 points on offer before the end of the season.
