Subaru’s James Cole claimed his first ever British Touring Car Championship pole position at Rockingham.
Cole, running strong after three fourth-place finishes at Knockhill, beat Jack Goff by less than five hundredths of a second with his final lap of the session.
Not only is this Cole’s first pole in his BTCC career, but also the first pole for a rear-wheel drive car at Rockingham.
Goff will join Cole on the front row of the grid, beating Speedwork’s Tom Ingram to second by just four tenths of a second.
Championship rivals Ashley Sutton and Colin Turkington could only manage fourth and fifth, whilst third in the standings Gordon Shedden took 16th. Rob Collard fared even worse and is set to start 20th for tomorrow’s first race.
Adam Morgan joins Turkington on row three, ahead of Matt Neal and Josh Cook. Tom Chilton and Jason Plato rounded off the top 10.
