Goff: I’ve nothing to lose

Eurotech’s Jack Goff hopes to use the championship fight to his advantage as he starts ahead of Ashley Sutton and Colin Turkington in the opening British Touring Car Championship race at Rockingham.

Goff starts second in race one after Subaru’s James Cole beat him to pole in the final minute of qualifying. Tom Ingram took third, just ahead of the title rivals Sutton and Turkington.

Goff hopes Sutton and Turkington’s championship positions mean they’ll be less likely to attempt risky moves past him.

“I’m going to keep my elbows out,” he said.

“I’ve got nothing to lose; they’ve got championships to worry about.

“I’ll be going all guns blazing to get podiums for my boys, and they’ve got to find a way past me.”

Goff hasn’t ruled out battling with Cole for the race win, but knows it will be difficult to attack the rear-wheel drive Subaru once Cole’s heated up the tyres.

“I’ll give it my all to get past him,” Goff said.

“I’ll get my elbows out when his tyres are cold but I think, as of lap three, we can pretty much just wave him goodbye.

“The fact that a rear-wheel-drive car has managed to outqualify all the front wheel drive cars, on a track that usually suits front-wheel-drive cars in qualifying, it’s quite a scary thing for us.

“Come Sunday, we know they’re going to be a big chunk faster over a race distance. That’s the worry we have.”
