Oliphant takes maiden win from charging Sutton

Tom Oliphant took his first BTCC victory after performing a stunning double overtake on polesitter Aiden Moffat and Stephen Jelley.

Team BMW driver Oliphant made a great start putting himself in third and was able to follow Moffat and Jelley throughout the lap until he made his move on the outside of both drivers into Paddock Hill Bend on lap 2.

From there he stayed in the lead, resisting the pressure from Ash Sutton throughout the race.

Oliphant was able to stay out of trouble on the first lap after Senna Proctor was pushed into a half spin coming out of Druids, and after collecting Jack Goff and Adam Morgan, Goff was sent across the track taking out Tom Ingram in the process.

Once again the race was an attritional one, which saw multiple mechanical failures including Championship contender Dan Cammish and multiple punctures including a second puncture of the day for Rory Butcher who once again was having a stunning race in third.

Stephen Jelley completed the podium with Moffat and Colin Turkington finishing just behind in fourth and fifth respectively.

Matt Neal put in a great recovery drive to finish sixth just ahead of rookie James Gornall who rounded off a great day by finishing seventh.

Tom Chilton, Proctor and Sam Osbourne completed the top 10.

Michael Crees and Bobby Thompson recovered to 11th and 12th respectively after their collision in Round 4.

Ollie Brown and Jack Butel scored their first points of their respective seasons in 13th and 14th.

Nic Hamilton scored the first points of his BTCC career by finishing 15th.
