Jack Doohan claims the second win of the season, as he strengthened the championship battle in Belgium.
Doohan completed the second race of the fifth round in the first place under the gloomy weather with an 80% chance of raining ahead of his teammate, David Schumacher, in second for Trident.
The title battle gets even tighter with Doohan, slicing 13 points off Dennis Hauger’s advantage from the race, keeping it close with just 50 points behind the championship leader.
The Australian driver retained his position from the reverse pole as he pulled away from Schumacher once the race got underway, extending the gap to more than three seconds.
With just two laps into the race, the rookie Zdenek Chovanec brings out the first yellow flag before another one emerges at lap four as Arthur Leclerc makes his move to claim P9, which resulted in Hoggard dropping down at the back of the field.
Amaury Cordeel and Calan Williams were lucky to get out of the car safely after the contact, as the race ended under the safety car with heavy rain.
Logan Sargeant made it to third place, starting from the seventh place, passing Alexander Smolyar and Caio Collet as he claimed his second podium of the season for Charouz Racing ahead of the Brazilian driver in fourth.
Clement Novalak finished the race in fifth, closing the day for Trident inside the top 5 with ART’s Frederik Vesti in sixth after gaining three places in the opening stint.
MP Motorsport’s Victor Martins was seventh ahead of Alexander Smolyar, who attempted to fight back. Smolyar lost his grip and returned to eighth for ART, handing the third position to Logan Sargeant in the opening battle.
The PREMA Racing drivers, Dennis Hauger and Arthur Leclerc, completed Race 2 in the tenth and eleventh place, respectively.
Jack Doohan will be starting the last race of the fifth round in Belgium on pole position once again, ahead of Victor Martins and Alexander Smolyar.
Race 3 will emerge at 10:40 local times.
