British Rallycross faces uncertainty at racing in Wales this year. Pembrey Circuit have called off their remaining race meetings this season, though the BRX event is not yet cancelled.

Pembrey Circuit have announced that they have abandoned their remaining race meetings for this season. All their events until mid-October have been cancelled while the British Rallycross round has been postponed to a later unconfirmed date. This is due to the Welsh Government continuing to enforce that all events can only have up to 30 people. This would make any race meeting impossible to run even without spectators. The BARC run circuit had hoped to host events without fans but in the face of higher infection rates has admitted defeat. The Carmarthenshire venue upgraded its paddock area over the winter for its 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, no race meetings have been able to be held. Before lockdown Pembrey was set to host 2 rounds of the British Rallycross Championship. This was reduced to one after a revised calendar was created in May.

This news comes days after Knockhill’s event was postponed which means the next scheduled round will be at Mondello in November. The Irish round could also be called off if travel is not possible from Britain. It is likely that a replacement round will be held at Lydden Hill if organisers try to complete the season. The opening round was held at the Kent track in August and was won by Mark Donnelly. He currently leads the championship by 1 point over Julian Godfrey. Only a couple of other venues in England can host rallycross events, those being Croft and Silverstone. Neither were set to run events this year though both were on the British Rallycross calendar last season. It is unlikely either circuit will be used as a replacement round, though.
