FIA Formula 3: Clement Novalak tops the FIA Formula 3 pre-season test in the first morning session

Clement Novalak tops the morning session of the FIA Formula 3 pre-season test in Spielberg, setting the fastest time with 1:19.162.

The FIA Formula 3 started their first pre-season test for the season this morning in Spielberg, Austria. The two-day event occurs on the third and fourth of April, separated by four sessions.

Austria is confirmed to be the first calendar of the FIA Formula 3 pre-season tests. Barcelona will take place as the second pre-season test in the two-day event in 21-22 of April before moving out to Jerez’s last pre-season test.

Thirty drivers and ten teams made their appearance on the grid for the first time in the 2021 season today as they look forward to unlocking new challenges. 

Here are the first pre-season test morning results:

Trident’s Clement Novalak set the fastest time with a 1:19.162, just a few gaps away from the Rookie Caio Collet, who takes the lead for the MP Motorsport team as his teammate, the reigning champion of Formula Renault, Victor Martins, was in 3rd.

Frederik Vesti secured his best time from the first day of the pre-season test with an impressive time of 1:19.492 as he completed four laps ahead of Olli Caldwell, who ended the session in 5th. Prema’s second-fastest driver from the session, Dennis Hauger, managed to finish the session in the 6th.

Matteo Nannini, the Italian HWA racing driver, was 7th fastest for the team as Jack Doohan closed the session in eight ahead of the Charouz Racing test driver, Michael Belov.

Johnny Edgar was 9th fastest for Carlin, followed by David Schumacher in 10th, as he secured his best time record in the morning session. Oliver Rasmussen was 11th fastest from the grid, with the last Prema racing driver from the pre-season test, Arthur Leclerc, behind the Danish racing driver. 

Logan Sargeant completed the session in 13th fastest for Charouz as their test driver, followed by Alexander Smolyar in 14th as he scored the second-fastest car for ART.

Hitech Grand Prix drivers Ayumu Iwasa and Jack Crawford finished in 15th and 16th exclusively, leaving Filip Ugran and Roman Stanek to finish behind them quite closely.

Pierre Louis Chovet was 19th for Jenzer Motorsport, along with Ido Cohen and Juan Manuel Correa.

Van Der Helm was 22nd fastest for the last MP Motorsport car, with Amaury Cordeel leading the way for Campos racing as he finished in 23rd fastest for the team.

Calan William ended the session in 24th for Jenzer Motorsport, followed by Reshad De Gerus in 25th for Charouz Racing and Rafael Villagomez in 26th for HWA.

The Italian racing driver Lorenzo Colombo placed the second Campos Racing car in the 27th fastest alongside his teammate, Laszlo Toth, in 28th and Kaylen Frederick as the third Carlin fastest driver in the session.

The next session on the first day of testing will be happening at 14:00 Austrian local time as the FIA Formula 3 will continue its action on the pre-season test with the following event until the 4th of April 2021.
