Rodin Motorsport’s Martinius Stenshorne led home his team-mate Alex Dunne behind the safety car to claim a maiden win in Formula 2’s Montreal feature race.

The race began on a slightly damp circuit, and Stenshorne ran third on the opening lap while Nikola Tsolov swept around the outside of polesitter Lauren Van Hoepen into turn one for the lead.

Van Hoepen quickly reclaimed the advantage three corners later, but his race ended before lap four was completed after crashing into the notorious “wall of champions” exiting the final chicane.

Having been promoted back to first place, Tsolov was one of many drivers to make his mandatory pitstop during the resulting safety car period.

He took the restart in fifth, but was squeezed wide at turn two as he tried to pass the still-to-pit Mari Boya for fourth, with Stenshorne capitalising to snatch the net lead.

Tsolov drew alongside Stenshorne two laps later but was unable to get by, and the But Maini then tagged Tsolov into a spin into the final chicane, and Stenshorne firmly took control of the race by picking off Colton Herta and then benefitting from Roman Bilinski outbaking himself to lead overall.

Dino Beganovic eventually moved up to second only to then grind to a halt with a technical issue, and the safety car was required once more.

Racing resumed with six laps to go, but a collision between Oliver Goethe and Ritomo Miyata neutralised the race for a third time, and there was no more racing action.

Stenshorne therefore cruised across the line to seal the win ahead of Dunne, and Gabriele Mini completed the podium.

Joshua Duerksen finished fourth, while Tsolov recovered to fifth, with Sebastian Montoya claiming sixth ahead of Cian Shield and Nico Varrone.squabbling duo both dispatched Kush Maini into the hairpin.

After making his mandatory stop, Bilinski came home ninth, and Saturday’s sprint race winner rounded out the points-paying positions in 10th.
