Callum Illot will be joining Van Amersfoort Racing for his second Formula 3 season.
The teenager is the second confirmed driver for Van Amersfoort, after two time Brazilian F3 champion Pedro Piquet was confirmed in November.
Illot has had success in karting before his first season in cars last year. The Brit, a member of the Red Bull junior team until the end of last year, went straight from karting into Formula 3 last year, driving for Carlin.
A podium finish at the Nürburgring last year was Illot’s best finish of the season but Van Amersfoort is confident in the teen’s talent.
“Callum was on our radar from the very first pre-season test,” said Frits van Amersfoort, team principal. “The transition from go kart to single seater worked very well for him, despite his young age. He was also the only one of 35 drivers to finish all 33 races of the championship.
“During the first test with us in early November, Callum already showed true racing spirit. Our main goal will be to help him in his ambition to be a regular front runner during his second season in autosport.”
Van Amersfoort had a year of success last season, with a number of wins and podium finishes.
“Teaming up with VAR for 2016 is an ideal move and I have a good feeling about them,” Ilot said. “They have come close to winning the F3 championship over the last 2 years and are pushing very hard to improve.”
