Team Cooksport have resigned Rory Collingbourne for the 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup after the 18-year-old finished sixth in his debut season last year.
With his rookie season behind him, Collingbourne is aiming to progress through the championship and put himself as a championship contender this year. Fourth was the best he could do last year, but now Collingbourne is aiming for podiums and wins.
Collingbourne spent the last week testing at Oulton Park and Thruxton in preparation for his second Clio Cup season.
It feels great to be back in the car and working with the Cooksport team again,” he said. “I’m really happy about the deal we’ve been able to put together for 2016 and I’m confident we can come out fighting right at the sharp end at the opening rounds at Brands Hatch in early April.”
“Rory showed some real flashes of speed in 2015 and his rate of progress was very impressive,” said BTCC star, Josh Cook, who runs the team. “It took me three years to finish runner up in the UK Clio Cup so I can call on my experience to gauge what sort of level Rory is at going into his second season, and I’m convinced he’s now ready to start pushing for podium results and even wins.”
Cook hopes to announce more of the team’s line up in the coming week.
