Westbourne announces Collins as first 2017 Clio Cup challenger

Myles Collins will make his return to racing with Westbourne Motorsport in the Clio Cup.

The 22-year-old previously raced with the team in the Citroen Saxo and Ginetta Junior series, before leaving the team as he switched to the Northern Saloon and Sportscars.

Now, with the hopes of taking the step up to touring cars, Collins returns to Westbourne for his first season in the Clio Cup. Though he was often a front runner and class winner in his previous championships, Collins hasn’t raced for 18 months, making the year ahead a tougher challenge than usual.

Collins“I always wanted to be on the UK Clio Cup grid, so have spent my time away getting everything ready to achieve that,” he said. “Re-joining Westbourne, which has a very strong track record in the championship, is the logical choice.

“The longer-term ambition is touring cars and the UK Clio Cup obviously the place to be for a driver to prepare for that.”

Team principal Richard Colburn believes his new recruit has good chances this season.

“We rate Myles very highly,” he said. “He came on really well under tutelage from our driver instructor Ed Pead with lots of natural pace. It’s great to be teaming up with him again for our return into the UK Clio Cup after effectively two years away.”

Collins is the first driver Westbourne have announced for their Clio Cup return, and two more are expected to be announced soon.

“This is a very serious bid by us and we’re coming back determined to add to the wins we’ve previously ranked up and, who knows, maybe even a push for the title.”
