BTCC: Morgan takes victory after crash causes red flag

TouringCars.net

Adam Morgan took his first victory of the 2020 BTCC season as a crash between Stephen Jelley and Nicolas Hamilton caused the race to be red flagged.

Morgan had taken the lead on lap 1 and resisted pressure from the Team BMW’s of Tom Oliphant and Colin Turkington and the Infiniti of Ash Sutton throughout, taking victory once the race was stopped on lap 11.

Jelley appeared to spin on the exit of Druids with Hamilton collecting him at full speed before hitting the barrier a few hundred metres further down the track.

Both drivers appeared to walk away unaided from their cars.

With Oliphant running second and Turkington third, the drivers swapped positions with the intent of swapping back should Turkington have stayed behind Morgan.

However the red flag scuppered any chance of this happening.

This meant Morgan, Turkington and Oliphant made up the podium with Sutton finishing just behind in fourth.

Tom Chilton finished fifth, closely followed by Senna Proctor in sixth.

Jake Hill came home seventh with race one winner, Rory Butcher, in eighth.

Chris Smiley and Aiden Moffat rounded out the top 10 in ninth and 10th respectively.

After crashing in race 2, Josh Cook came back to finish in 11th Just ahead of Sam Osbourne in 12th.

Jack Goff scored his first points of the weekend in 13th.

Carl Boardley and Dan Cammish completing the points scorers in 14th and 15th.
