Rory Butcher took victory in the reversed-grid third BTCC race at Knockhill after his Motorbase team-mate Ollie Jackson triggered a multi-car crash that caused the race to be restarted.
Butcher outdragged polesitter Senna Proctor to lead at the first start, but the race was red-flagged on the second lap. Jackson was spun around before being collected by MB Motorsport’s Sam Osborne, Max Powered Racing’s Mike Bushell as well as other cars. All drivers involved were uninjured.
The race was restarted once the marshals had cleared the circuit, with Butcher again moving ahead of Senna Proctor’s Hyundai into the first corner, before going on to take a comfortable victory by 6.4 seconds over Proctor.
Tom Chilton moved up to third on the second lap after passing Proctor’s team-mate Chris Smiley. BMW’s Tom Oliphant also passed Smiley three laps later into the chicane before closing in on Chilton. But despite the pressure, Chilton held on to take the final podium spot for BTC Racing, half a second ahead of Oliphant.
Jake Hill finished in fifth for MB Motorsport, with Dan Cammish in sixth for Honda Yuasa Racing. Smiley dropped back to seventh by the finish, just holding off a train of cars headed by the Infiniti of Aiden Moffat.
Colin Turkington finished just behind in ninth for BMW, having lost out in a close tussle with Moffat in the closing stages, with Toyota’s Tom Ingram, earlier double-victor Ash Sutton and Honda’s Matt Neal close behind in 10th, 11th and 12th.
