BTCC: Rowbottom takes his first BTCC victory after red flag delay

Dan Rowbottom led home a dominant Dynamics Honda 1-2 after a three car pile up at Lodge corner.

Polesitter Senna Proctor and fellow front row starter Gordon Shedden had poor starts giving Rory Butcher and Rowbottom the opportunity to move up the grid.

Shedden was able to just hold the lead with team mate Rowbottom following in second.

Proctor slotted in behind the Dynamics Honda’s in third before dropping down the order later in the lap.

Championship leader Ash Sutton dropped down to the back of the order after pitting on lap 3.

Proctor’s recovery drive put him into fourth after aggressively passing Butcher at the hairpin on lap 7.

The red flag was then brought out on lap 8 after a collision which saw Plato and Oliphant collide sending the BMW driver into a spin at Lodge and was the collected by the unlucky Chris Smiley and the less unlucky Rick Parfitt.

All drivers got out of their cars unaided, however it is unknown if any of the cars will be repaired in time for race 2 or 3.

With just under half the race remaining it was decided that the race would be restarted with 6 racing laps to go.

At the restart Rowbottom made a great start, jumping ahead of Shedden and kept the Dynamics 1-2 intact.

Shedden appeared to have the pace on Rowbottom, attempting to make a move both at Lodge and Old Hall without success.

Despite the pressure from his team mate, Rowbottom was able to take the victory with Adam Morgan taking the final podium position.

Butcher held off Stephen Jelley to finish fourth and fifth respectively with Aidan Moffat in sixth.

Jason Plato finished seventh ahead of Jake Hill and polesitter Proctor in ninth.

Jack Goff rounded out the top 10.
