Mclaren unveiled the MCL60 at a launch event this evening.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris will be the drivers of McLaren’s 2023 challenger. Piastri is entering his rookie season, having won the 2021 F2 championship. Norris is coming into his 5th year with the team.

The car is named in honour of 2023 being the team’s 60th year in Formula 1, having been founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963.

The car has a strong resemblance to last year’s car, with a lot of exposed carbon fibre, which is done to save weight.

New Team Principal Andrea Stella was candid about their chances this season. He said the team are “not entirely happy for what is the launch car – but optimistic that it should take a good step soon” as they plan to introduce upgrades the Azerbaijan grand prix.

Lando Norris said “A successful year would be to still take some big steps forward.

“If we can end this season around that spot, where are fighting for fourth constructor and leading the way to the top three, we can be happy.”

McLaren had fallen from 4th in 2021 to 5th in 2022 behind Apline. The team experienced brake cooling issues early last year, but did score a podium at the Emila Romagna grand prix. This was the only podium by a team other than Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes.

A new wind tunnel is expected to be completed this year which could aid McLaren’s future ambitions.

Mclaren are the 6th team to launch their 2023 car, following Alpha Tauri on Saturday. Aston Martin also launch their car later this evening.
