MotoGP- And the World Champion Is…

Feature Image Credit: Fabio Quartararo

A battle we’ve all waiting for, a closing championship and the first dry session of the weekend- who will come out on top? And who will wish they did?

Bagnaia and Miller get the Ducati Dreamstart, as well as Marc Marquez. Remember- every point matters when it comes to the Match Point round.

It’s clear that this race is going to be another battle between Bagnaia Marquez. It echo’s what could have been in Aragon. Who will come out on top, this time?

With three laps to go and with a long lap penalty coming for jumping the start, Joan Mir crashes out and take Danilo Petrucci with him.

It’s clear that Miller is championship conscious. He is acting as a sort of shield between Bagnaia and Marquez, who is just coming off of a win. Just as it looks like Marquez isn’t going to make it, Jack Miller crashes out at Turn 15, the left side of his tire not warm enough to take the pressure.

Marquez isn’t going to care about the championship or the politics of it. While Quartararo, who is in 11th place with 22 laps to go, really could use the help. The championship points are growing smaller and smaller…

With how Marquez is glancing off of Bagnaia, the question is whether or not he is biding his time or Bagnaia if is nearly unreachable.

Luca Marini, the man who got a surprising 3rd place, is currently in a solid 7th place.

Taking a look further back on the track, Johann Zarco has the potential to overtake Quartararo and hold him back from taking some vital championship points.

Early in the season, Bagnaia and Ducati were who people thought were going to take the championship- and they’re getting closer and closer to being right.

Taka Nakagami has crashed out of the race with 18 laps to go.

Iker Lecuona crash out of the race, unable to capitalize on a career best qualifying.

With all these crashes, it is reminiscent of a Moto3 race. It’s important to remember that this is their first dry session of the weekend.

And with that said, Jorge Martin crashes out of the race.

Checking up on Quartararo, he has made his way up to 9th place. Can he salvage this race?

On the other hand, Brad Binder has a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits.  It is quite a shame, since he had a great start from pitlane.

Bagnaia has put in the fastest lap of the race, tired of Marquez following him. Marquez responds instantly, wanting the win, tired of history beating him out with a Ducati.

Quartararo is deciding to throw the hammer in as he overtakes Espargaro with a little risk.

With 7 laps to go, the push Marquez hasn’t done is closing in. There is a small gap that is fluctuating between lowering and going up.

AND BAGNAIA CRASHES OUT, MAKING FABIO QUARTARARO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

With the Ducati out, not only is he world championship, but he also has a podium position.

What happened: the temperature dropped significantly in the laps following up to Bagnaia’s crash. The tire choices Ducati made were not a gamble worth it- it was one that lost them the world championship.

On the other hand, Marquez is on his way for back-to-back wins.

And he does it! Bastiannini finishes in 3rd, but it is Fabio Quartararo who is the 2021 World Champion!

There are tears of joy coming from him and Yamaha, but this is a win well deserved.

Congratulations to Quartararo from Overtake Motorsports.

Tune in next week to see what comes next!
