Gilham to replace Caine at Rockingham

Team boss Tony Gilham will be getting back in Team HARD’s Toyota Avensis this weekend, replacing Michael Caine.

Caine was forced to withdraw from race two and three at Knockhill due to an old back injury, and the team have decided he should sit out of the Rockingham meeting.

“Michael’s had a flare up of an old back injury,” said Gilham. “It had previously been operated on and corrected, but he felt pain in race one back at Knockhill.

“It’s a shame for Michael and ourselves but it’s a long-term project with him and his sponsors as we look to 2017 and beyond.”

Gillham will step up to the job of filling the team’s third car, racing alongside Mike Epps and Jake Hill. The team boss may have been out in the car before, taking points last season at Silverstone, but he hasn’t been out in a race car for nearly a year.

“You could definitely say I’ve been thrown in at the deep end,” Gillham said.

“I raced the last two events of last season at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, but since then I’ve done nothing.”

Despite the challenge, Gillman is looking forward to getting back out on track.

“It’ll certainly be a weekend that’s a bit of a learning process for me. I’ll be working closely with our guys – Mike and Jake – to try and glean as much as I can before going out competitively in quali.”
