Mattias Adielsson wins the inaugural World RX Esports Invitational event, the Catalunya Edition.
The event was run in DiRT Rally 2.0 with partnership from Codemasters and Motorsport Games. There was a grid of 20 drivers including World RX champions Timmy Hansen and Johan Kristoffersson as well as the DiRT Rally 2.0 World Series champion Killian Dall’olmo.
Swedish Rally driver Adielsson, is no stranger to sim racing and was able to take the lead of the five car final in the opening stages where he went on to take the win after the six-lap race.
Lukas Mateja, a sim racer, failed to make his first lap joker work and lost second place on the last lap to Dall’olmo, who won the first semi-final.
The World RX drivers failed to score a podium with Kevin Abbring taking fourth whilst Hansen, winner of semi-final two, dropped to the back after contact in turn one with Dall’olmo.
Missing out on the final places was top qualifier, Dall’olmo’s brother Quentin, who reversed into the path of Kevin Hansen, resulting in a 10 second penalty and prevented Hansen from qualifying.
Andreas Bakkerud was another big name to miss out on the final. Running in second place on the final lap of the second semi-final contact with Mateja dropped him to fifth.
Marius Bermingrud and Jon Armstrong also lost out on a final place.
Two-time Word RX champion, Kristoffersson, suffered with technical problems which meant prevented him from making it out of the qualifying stages.
The World RX Esports Invitational is due to return on 3 May at the Montalegre circuit in Portugal.
