Tom Ingram took his and Toyota’s first victory of the 2020 BTCC season ahead of the Team Dynamics Honda of Dan Cammish while Colin Turkington failed to finish.
Polesitter Cammish started poorly as Ingram out-dragged him into Allard with Matt Neal closely following in third.
Ingram was able to keep Cammish at bay throughout the 16-lap race with the gap fluctuating between 0.5s and 1.3s.
Cammish attempted to make a move coming into the final chicane on the final lap but Ingram was able to defend effectively coming home just 0.644s ahead.
Further down the order Turkington suffered a misfire in his Team BMW 3-series, eventually retiring from the race with less than half the race remaining.
Turkington’s first retirement of 2020 and Ash Sutton’s drive to fifth means the Infinti driver now leads the championship by just 1 point from Turkington.
Neal completed the podium meaning he has now finished on the podium at Thruxton every year since 2002.
Adam Morgan, in his 250th BTCC race, kept Neal honest throughout but was unable to get past the 3-time champion.
Sutton was the highest finishing rear-wheel drive car in fifth having started 11th with Rory Butcher finishing sixth.
Tom Chilton was the highest finishing BTC Racing Honda Civic in seventh just ahead of Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant.
BTC Racing team mates Josh Cook and Michael Crees rounded out the top 10 in ninth and tenth respectively.
Senna Proctor is the highest placed Hyundai in 11th with the returning Rob Austin finishing 12th having not raced in the category since 2018.
Chris Smiley, Ollie Jackson and Aiden Moffat complete the points scorers in 13th, 14th and 15th.
