2021 BTCC season delayed, Edwards gets full time seat

The 2021 BTCC season has been delayed by five weeks to ‘…maximise the opportunity for spectators and guests to attend our events’.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced all nine rounds of the 2020 season to take part behind closed doors and with the prospect of normality at least being partially resumed by the middle of the year, TOCA hope the later dates will allow for more spectators to attend certain events, particularly at the end of season.

The delay has caused a significant calendar reshuffle with Thruxton hosting rounds 1,2 and 3 on the weekend of 8/9 May.

Snetterton will host rounds 4,5 and 6 one week later and Brands Hatch Indy taking place on 12/13 June.

Oulton Park will host the the first round after the summer break on 31 July/1 August with Knockhill two weeks later on 14/15 August.

The series returns to Thruxton for rounds 16, 17 and 18 on 28/29 August followed by Croft on 18/19 September.

The Silverstone round will take place on the 25/26 September with Donington becoming the penultimate event on 9/10 October.

The Brands Hatch GP circuit resumes it’s usual finale hosting duties on 23/24 October.

Edwards takes final BTC Racing seat, Chilton joins Ciceley Motorsport

After impressing on her one-off appearance at Silverstone last year Jade Edwards has been rewarded with a full time seat at BTC Racing alongside Josh Cook and Michael Crees.

Although Edwards didn’t score any points at Silverstone, the FK8 Honda Civic should be a more competitive prospect giving her the opportunity to score points regularly during the season.

Edwards becomes the female driver since Fiona Leggate in 2007 to take part in the series full time.

Edwards replaces Tom Chilton who as announced that he is moving to the Ciceley Motorsport squad who will use BMW 330i’s for the first time year.

Chilton, who first raced in the series in 2002, will be looking to at least match his 2018 season when he finished third in a Motorbase run Ford Focus RS.
